sounds exactly like my '05 Verona. My check engine light comes on periodically, and when it does, my car slows down while in drive or if i try to shift from P, D or R it jerks the car really hard. when i try to give it gas when moving out of P to D, it hesitates. The shop i took it to, didnt have time today to run a diagnostic test on it, so i will be taking it in tomorrow morning at about 7:30am. i will keep your posting in mind. i did ask them to check the transmission. will see what happens tomorrow.
