Another Crankshaft Seal Question
OK, I have now ruined 4 seals... almost $50 so far! One FKS Taiwanese part from Pep Boys, and 3 OEM Japanese seals.. the last one I put in the freezer overnight to shrink it as much as possible. In the FSM, the only reference to crankshaft seal replacement is in the section about oil pump removal. The manual shows replacing the seal after the pump is removed. I have been working on the seal that is right on the oil pump when the timing gear is removed from the crank shaft. Does a Tracker (97 1.6 16V) have two crank shaft seals, or is the one I am working on part of the oil pump and not supposed to be replaced and I have to pull the pump off? I can't believe how difficult this is. Any input from folks who've done this job would be greatly appreciated.
