Default Acetone in fuel?

I have heard that adding 3 oz. acetone to 10 gal. gasoline will improve mileage and throttle response. I work with a guy that tried it on his 2001 1/2 ton chevy with a small block and he said he had more power and got 2 mpg more by adding the acetone. A friend of his tried it and also saw and increase in mileage. I have read some about this on the net and there are as many arguments for it as against it. I read that fuel addatives have acetone in them so it shouldn't hurt the engine or fuel system. Has anyone tried this? If so, what were the results.
