he said clutch, so i guess ? he has a 5sp?
before guessing on leaks. it is always best to:

1 clean the engine and tranny.
2 drive 10 mile and examine all carefully.
3 repeat 2 until you find the real leak.

guessing can be very expensive, and no the tranny will not leak if:
1: the front and rear bearings are good and the seals are good.

Windage under car will fool anyone into guessing wrong !!!

anytime you pull a tranny 5sp always change the rear engine seal , ( get that High Qual version they sell ) and glue it in using that special suzuki sealant.
called out in the FSM.

that rear seal can pop out , all to easy on kicks ( a weak link there)

so exactly what 97 do you have, ? 1.6L , 1.8L 4wd ? 2door , 4 door?

the best advice is , the problem can be simple and cheap,
make very sure where the source of the leak acually is coming from.
It can really fool you.

Tell what engine and you will get way better answers.
what drive line do you have.

cheers
