I'm sorry to hear that Missouri has struck yet again - both with pollen AND junk cars.
As a fellow Missourian, I understand exactly what you are going through. I just finished looking for a commuter car and was disgusted with what people try to pass off as a vehicle around here. I wound up paying a lot more than I had planned because so many lower priced cars were junk. Anything I looked at that was priced under $2,500 had problems that I didn't want to deal with on a daily driver.
Personally, I would try to get as much out of the Sidekick as you can and save up some more to get one in much better condition.
