Before I unhooked exhaust, it would die at 1/2 throttle, now just does not increase RPM. CEL is on, but shorting the diag. conn. doesn't do anything (no flashes). Should I just pour gas over it and set it on fire?

Check your ECM, my 1991 did the exact same thing when it went, it's behind the dash by the driver's knee. You need to remove the speaker from that side and it'll be right behind it.

There are quite a few threads about this, ECMs from 1991/93 have a design flaw that makes the capacitors crap out after a while.

After I changed my ECM (got it from masterkit1.com but they're available anywhere really) it fixed all the problems.

About your CEL being it, and no code, that's textbook ECM failure.

Good luck.
